Central Chester is a crossing of two main streets (both largely traffic free): Along these run the Rows, two tiers of arcaded shopping streets, one above the other The scheme dates from medieval times and is unique in Britain. The black and white buildings at The Cross are 19th-century Tudor replications, but Chester has many original examples of half timbered architecture. To the North is Chester Cathedral, part of the most complete medieval monastic complex in Britain. Don’t miss Walk the city walls, especially on the east side, and taking a boat on the river Dee.
Fascinating museums include the Chester Grosvenor with its extensive collection of Roman artifacts and the Cheshire Military Museum, an interesting and innovative attraction located in Chester Castle, a Grade I Listed Building.
